Peak Trust Company Deepens Commitment to University of Alaska’s Ted Stevens Legislative Internship Program with Third Consecutive Donation

Removing financial obstacles for the next generation of legislative leaders.

ANCHORAGE, Alaska, March 3, 2025 /PRNewswire/ - A national leader in complex and sophisticated estate planning, Peak Trust Company has announced a third installment of the organization's five-year $52,500 commitment to the University of Alaska Southeast's (UAS) Senator Ted Stevens Legislative Internship Program. Renowned as the state's top educational experience in legislative politics, the program immerses students in the world of governance and public policy, preparing them for careers in public service. This year's $10,500 donation from Peak Trust will support the program's third-largest cohort of 14 students.

“Since its inception, The Ted Stevens Legislative Internship has provided pivotal opportunities to students across the state," shared Matthew Blattmachr, President & CEO of Peak Trust Company.

"Through our partnership over the years, we're thrilled to see the growing impact of this program, as much of Alaska's political sector is now drawn from the ranks of former UAS legislative interns."

Now in its 37th year, the Ted Stevens Legislative Internship continues to be a cornerstone of political education in Alaska. The program enables students to earn college credits through a demanding academic program, while working full time in the Alaska State Legislature in Juneau with a State Senator or Representative's office.

In addition to the Ted Stevens Foundation, Peak Trust is the only other external corporate sponsor of the internship, providing financial assistance to students who relocate to Juneau for the internship.

This partnership continues alongside Peak Trusts' recent donation to the University of Delaware's Professional and Continuing Studies, which will soon welcome the inaugural class of Peak Trust Management Certificate students this spring.

"Peak Trust's generous support breaks down financial barriers, expanding the internship program each year to those who otherwise might not be able to afford the move," said Professor Glenn D. Wright, Ph.D., Statewide Program Coordinator at the University of Alaska Southeast. "By offsetting costs such as housing, transportation, and living expenses, this funding allows students to focus on developing their skills and making meaningful contributions to the legislative process."

The 2025 cohort of students boasts ambitious academic achievers from diverse backgrounds and regions of the state. UAS's Development Officer & Annual Fund Manager, Brittany Eames shared that, "This is an excellent group of academically and professionally driven individuals. In their short political tenure, these students have already become integral team members, carrying legislation and policy."

Peak Trust will join the University of Alaska Southeast in welcoming the 2025 Senator Ted Stevens Legislative Interns, along with Alaskan legislators, at an in-person gathering in Juneau this spring.
